Weekend Wrap #42: Heisman Edition

news_wrap.jpgCongratulations goes out to Sophomore Quarterback Sam Bradford of the University of Oklahoma. Personally, as a Sooners fan I am happy to see Bradford win it. He brings the number of Sooners with a Heisman Trophy to five joining Jason White (2004), Billy Sims (1978), Steve Owens (1969) and Billy Vessels (1952) in the elite fraternity. While personally I am happy for Bradford, a part of me was rooting for either Tebow or McCoy to win. The reason being is that Heisman winning QB’s tend to not play well in their bowl games that follow. Maybe it is the buffet and banquet tour that follows winning the award but many players play flat in their bowl game. Last year’s Heisman winner, Tim Tebow, lost in the Capital One Bowl. The year before that, Ohio State QB Troy Smith lost in the BCS Championship Game. 2003 winner and Oklahoma QB Jason White lost in the Sugar Bowl while Eric Crouch lost in the Rose Bowl following winning the Heisman. It may be the equivalent to the Madden Curse in the NFL but history has not been kind to Heisman winners in their bowl games. Congrats goes out to Bradford on the win tonight none the less. I just hope he can break the curse come January 8, 2009. Now on with the links…
