Breakfast and Lunch…Together!

doughnut_burger Ever since I saw the “Man vs. Food” episode where Adam Richman ate a bacon cheeseburger on a barbequed glazed doughnut I have been dying to duplicate the recipe.

Since the Eagles had three 1pm kick-offs over the past 4 weeks, I thought what better time than the present to try a recipe that has you covered for both breakfast and lunch, and could end up being even tastier than brunch.

On our first attempt at this crazy concocktion my buddies and I went with Glazed Doughnut Bacon Egg Cheeseburgers, following this recipe.

The end result…so freaking good!  We ended up going conservative on the grilling of the doughnut halves, leaving the dougnut on the grill for only about a minute.

The only downside of the recipe was the mess in eating the sandwich.  But you are in a parking lot, about to go to a football game, so who cares about a little mess.  Just wait to put on your jersey until after the sandwich is gone!

At the next home game we went with Bacon Doughnuts.  We first saw the idea on the Internet, but decided we would simplify the cooking and invent our own recipe.

We picked up some maple doughnuts from the local bakery.  On a previous visit to the local Shop Rite, we picked up a box of Pillsbury Toaster Strudels and some bacon.  From the box we took the packets of icing.

Once we were down in the lot, we cooked the bacon, spread the icing on the dougnuts, cut the bacon into small pieces, placed the bacon pieces on the doughnut, and then placed the dought on the grill for about 45 seconds (allowing the icing to melt).  Again, out of this freaking world!

And then there is recipe #3 which I plan on making tomorrow.  I am going to go with the Apple Cider Doughnut, my wife’s left over maple and brown sugar glazed ham, a slice of cheddar cheese, and a piece of bacon.  Instead of a grill, since I will be indoors with the home team away, I will use the griddle.

After tomorrow I think I will have had my fill of doughnuts with meat.  But if you are looking to give your 1 pm kick-off tailgates a little twist, I 100% suggest going for the doughnut and meat combo!

Even if you end up not liking the recipes, you will at least having something to share with co-workers come Monday even if the home team flops on Sunday!
