Tailgate Beer To Host “Can Cancer” Tailgate May 8th

April 11, 2011 in Featured

Tailgate Beer Can Cancer HeaderAs a regular reader of this tailgating blog you understand that Tailgate Beer is a great promoter of the tailgate party lifestyle and supports the tailgating community in all of our endeavors. Not only does Tailgate Beer brew awesome craft beer (in a can no less) the folks there are a tremendous asset to the community. That is why we are proud and happy to announce that Tailgate Beer will be hosting the Inaugural TailGate to “Can Cancer” on May 8th.

Wesley Keegan, the founder of Tailgate Beer, has chosen the City of Hope to be the beneficiary of this charity tailgate. Wesley’s mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and will be receiving treatment at the City of Hope. Because of this, Tailgate Beer has chosen the May 8, 2010 San Diego Padres game to be the day of this charity tailgate. For those of you without a calendar directly in front of you, May 8th is Mother’s Day and the Padres will play the Arizona Diamondbacks at PETCO Park that day.

This event is scheduled to start at 10 am and go through 1:30 pm. (The Padres/Diamondbacks first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm) A number of parking spaces at PETCO’s Tailgate Park have been reserved just for this event. Tailgate Park near PETCO Park is a 1,000-space parking lot bound by Park Boulevard, 14th Street, K Street and Imperial Avenue in downtown San Diego.

Food, tailgate games and drinks (of course TailGate Beer for adults age 21 and over) will all be included in the festivities. There will also be raffles and a silent auction for great prizes. Some of the prizes will include a private tailgate party from Jay the Tailgate Guy at an event of your choice (locations limited) along with Padres and sports memorabilia. As part of the auction and raffle, will be a San Diego Padres themed custom tailgating grill. We are proud to be a part of this charity tailgate event and will be donating one of our customized tailgating grills to the effort. The best part is all proceeds from the grill will be donated to City of Hope to help others fight cancer.

Not only are they an outstanding organization that treats thousands of patients with life threatening diseases, but the group also holds a special place in Wesley’s life personally. This year, Wesley’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently receiving world-class treatment from the City of Hope. She is expected to make a full recovery and this tailgate is dedicated to her and the millions of other women fighting breast cancer.

Weekend Wrap-Up #103: Mother’s Day Edition

May 9, 2010 in Mailbag, Videos

If you didn’t know it or haven’t been paying attention, today was Mother’s Day. In honor of all the moms out there I thought it would appropriate to dust off this video we posted back in 2008. Yes, even Mr. T is the heart of his Bad Ass days in the 1980′s had a soft spot for mom as you can see in this cheesy music video. It may be a rerun from something we did two years ago but then again, two years ago we didn’t have the readership we have today.

Speaking of increased readership, before we get to the video and the links, congrats goes out to reader and RSS subscriber Tim in Iowa. His entry was randomly selected from all the other qualified entries in our Zaca Hangover Patch Giveaway. It was easy to enter. All you needed to do was subscribe to the TailgatingIdeas.com RSS feed either via Email or RSS feed. Then at the bottom of each feed was a secret password/movie quote and only visible to those RSS subscribers. Those wanting to enter needed to email us the quote to be entered. It was just that simple. Congrats to Tim, your sample pack of Zaca Hangover Patches will be sent directly from the manufacturer. Stay tuned because we will be running another contest exclusive to RSS subscribers soon. Can’t reveal anything definitive yet but it could involve a care package of free meat. Mom Can Tailgate

May 11, 2009 in Recipes

Rum ballsImage by maebmij via Flickr

Some sons will go with flowers (despite the flowers being double or triple their normal price) or maybe a framed family picture.  Others will surprise mom with a Mother’s Day brunch.  This fan went with baseball tickets, a Chase Utley t-shirt jersey, and a morning tailgate with mom.

In the past my tailgates have been with friends or with my dad.  Yesterday was a tailgating first for me…just mom and I.  The weather was perfect and the afternoon was an all around good time.  Mom even brought a surprise for the tailgate…

Rum Balls

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup dark rum
  • 2 /12 cups vanilla wafer crumbs
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  • Melt the chocolate on the stove, stirring until smooth
  • Remove from heat and whisk in 1/2 cup of sugar, corn syrup, and then the rum
  • In a separate bowl, mix the vanilla wafer crumbs and walnuts
  • Add the chocolate mixture to the nut mixture and stir until well blended
  • Place the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar in a bowl
  • Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and then roll the balls in the sugar
  • Cover and refrigerate

If you want to be on your best behavior while with mom I would suggest not having any more than 3-4 of these rum balls (especially after a few morning beers!).
