Tailgating Ideas – Don't Just Tailgate, Tailgate Better

Here’s a peek into what it is like to go tailgating in Iowa City. Bonus points for the enthusiasm Hawkeye fans bring each week. I am sure the Wisconsin tailgaters will deduct point for their unoriginal choice of song.

By know you know the can man, or in this case the can lady, can be one of the 14 Tailgaters Who Annoy the Crap Out of You. Little did we know when compiling that list the tailgating parking lot can collectors can be so entertaining as well. In addition to entertaining tailgaters with her righteous dance moves, she also serves as a cornhole distraction. (I thought distractions were only encouraged in beer pong?) The front facing fanny pack is also a nice touch. A true triple threat in the parking lots of Iowa City.

This week’s lesson in “How to Properly Use Twitter” is brought to you by none other than Melanie Collins. Who is Melanie Collins you ask… Well, she’s a former bikini model that has turned her propensity for looking scorchingly hot in a bikini into a gig as a reporter for the Big 10 Network. She’s also on Twitter, @melanie_collins, with over 5,000 stalkers, er, followers. As you can imagine, a hot girl talking about sports in a football crazy league like the Big 10 would tend to garner a few followers on Twitter. So when Melanie Collins tweeted that her sources were telling her that Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier was going to transfer, she immediately recognized the error of her ways. Despite deleting the tweet minutes later, the damage was done. The news took off like wildfire within the sports blogosphere and the UM message boards and Google searches for Melanie Collins just made a jump.

So here is the moral of the story – be a responsible tweeter and think before you press send. Much like drunk dialing your ex-girlfriend after 3 am, what you tweet may come back to haunt you. Another July 4th has come and gone and that can only mean one thing…. football season and prime tailgating season is coming soon. As tailgaters we must love 4th of July in that it is one of the most popular grilling holidays on the calendar. No matter if you have been to a game or not, the amount of dead animal flesh being charred up on millions of grills across the United States on this day makes it seem as though everyone is backyard tailgating all at once. It’s enough to make you proud to be an American. Another thing to make you thankful you are an American is this week’s Weekend Wrap-up Hottie.
