Weekend Wrap #44: Playoff Push Edition

December 28, 2008 in Mailbag

news_wrap.jpgNormally this portion of the NFL season most games are meaningless. Not this year. Lots of playoff scenarios still in play entered the day. With no Monday Night Football this week, all teams would know their fate by the end of the day. The Dallas Cowboys, who were a favorite to win the Super Bowl, choked away their hopes in Philly and are left sitting at home. Hey T.O., get your popcorn ready because you’ll be watching the playoffs from your couch. Speaking of monumental choke jobs, how about them Denver Broncos? Up three games over the San Diego Chargers heading into December and they still can’t get into the playoffs? How about getting half of 100 hung on them in the final game of the season?

So now that the playoff picture is set, here is my Super Bowl prediction… Carolina vs. San Diego. Yeah, a bit of a homer pick seeing how I am a season ticket holder to the Chargers but you have to admit they have been on a roll lately. Kind of reminds me of another team that got hot at the right time last year… The New York Giants.

Alright, enough predictions and on with the links:

Weekend Wrap #23: NFL Hall Of Fame Edition

August 3, 2008 in Mailbag

news_wrap.jpgSo I was watching the NFL Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on TV today. One thing that struck me as strange was the amount of credit that God and Jesus Christ get when something good happens. Darrell Green and Fred Dean both went on and on about their faith in God and how they attribute a lot of their on the field success to the big man upstairs. Whether you are a believer or not will remain out of the debate but I was wondering how much of a stake God really has in these mens’ lives? If he was always watching over them, how come their teams were not undefeated? Did they ever give God the credit for dropping a pass, missing a tackle or getting burned deep on a fly pattern? I doubt it. The funny thing is God gets all the credit when something good happens but the player will always blame the refs themselves when something bad happens. In a strange coincidence, TailgatingIdeas.com has been experiencing much success lately with increased traffic and interest from potential advertisers. I definitely have to give all the credit to God for my recent good fortune and success. Not an ounce of credit goes to me spending hours upon hours of writing and researching this stuff on here. Don’t think for one minute that this blog’s success has anything to do with me. Praise be to Allah and on with the links…

Test Your College Football Helmet Recognition

July 19, 2008 in Tailgating Games

Image by Getty Images It’s still July and that means we still have a few more weeks before the start of college football season. But until then, if you have a few minutes to burn, try taking this quiz to test your recognition of college football helmets. The quiz will open up in a Microsoft Excel sheet and you plug in your answers below each helmet.

A few tips before you take it. The Notre Dame and Navy helmets look very similar so be careful when answering those. Make sure you spell the names correctly or it will kick back that you answered wrong. NOTE: The guy who created these little test misspelled Connecticut and spelled it “Conneticut”.

I scored 48 on the first and 50 on the second. (I guess that means I watch too much ESPN.) Tell me what your score was in the comments section below.
