Road Trip This Week: Destination Arizona State

Look out Tempe, Ariz., the TailgatingIdeas.com staff a friend and I will be headed out to Packard Baseball Stadium this week for some baseball and tailgating. The Cal State Fullerton baseball team is taking on Arizona State in a two-game non-conference series match-up between two highly ranked programs. Fullerton entered this past weekend ranked No. 1 by Baseball America and Arizona State was ranked No. 3. This series could easily be a preview of two teams set for a collision course to meet again in Omaha, the home of the College World Series.

The great baseball in store for us aside, we are loading up the SUV, attaching the Freedom Grill FG-50 and packing the beer pong table, N-Ice Rack, The Beer Belts among other tailgating essentials and we will tailgate both games to the fullest extent. We already have a Tri-Tip marinating in some Stubb’s Beef Marinade and brats are coming with us too. Of course the beers will be icing down on the five hour drive from So Cal so they will nice and cold by the time we park and set up.

Seeing how this is our first time out to Packard Stadium, if there are any locals or veterans of the tailgating scene for ASU baseball, feel free to drop us some of the ground rules in the comments section below. We would hate to show up and start to tailgate assuming something is allowed, i.e. glass bottles, only to find out it is a big time no-no there. Pool Pong Rack Just In Time For Spring Break

N-Ice Rack Keeps Beer Pong Cups Cold When You’re On Fire

2-girls-playing-1-medium-qty.jpgSummer tailgating is great because not only does daylight savings allow for prolonged tailgating but the warm temperatures means the tailgating babes are wearing more revealing clothing. Playing beer pong while summer tailgating is not quite as awesome because by the time you get to your final cup, the beer has been sitting out in the open air for a while. I recently discovered a product called the N-Ice Rack that is a freezable rack in which you place your beer pong cups. The purpose of the N-Ice Rack is two fold. First and foremost, it keeps your beer pong cups on a block of ice while playing. The extra added benefit is that the holes provide unifying placement of the cups and eliminates the potential of those annoyingly, sloppy racks.

I had the chance to test out the N-Ice Rack for myself. Check out the video I put together.

  • Test was conducted on a Mid-July day in Southern California.
  • Outside air temperature was 96 degrees.
  • After pouring the beers, (10 inside the N-Ice Rack and one outside) in just 15 minutes the beer sitting out had reached 75 degrees. The Beer in the N-Ice Rack was 46 degrees.
  • After 45 minutes, the beer outside was 87 degrees and the N-Ice Rack beer was 47 degrees.
  • I drank both beers to make sure the thermometers were not misreading the temperatures. In fact the thermometers were spot on with their readings and I nearly gagged on the warm beer.

An extra added benefit for tailgaters is that the N-Ice Rack can double as a cooling device inside your cooler while you are on your way to the stadium. That’s translates into less ice you have to buy from the liquor store.
