Remember back in July we told you about the World’s Largest Flip Cup Tournament was coming to New York? Well, The Flip Cup Guys pulled it off apparently without a hitch this past weekend. 64 teams hailing from 10 states and Canada squared off in an NCAA style bracket and eventually crowned The Two Finger Fanatics from Arlington, Virginia as the winner of the inaugural event.

The champion team won the Grand Prize – a 7-day vacation and Xtreme Party Package to Negril, Jamaica courtesy of Sun Splash Tours. Jim Davis won the Survivor Flip Cup Tournament after beating 79 other men and women in a winner-take-all competition. He will join the Flip Cup Guys on The Rock Boat to the Bahamas in January for the first-ever Flip Cup Guys Cruise Tournament.

Flip Cup Guys Announce Grand Prize For NYC Tournament

flip_cup_guys_logo.jpgDo you recall back in July I told you about the World’s Largest Flip Cup Tournament was coming to New York? Mallory Rubin of Sports Illustrated Campus Clicks even picked up on the story. Well, the Flip Cup Guys just recently announced that the World’s Largest Flip Cup Tourney now has a sweet grand prize; a 7-day Sun Splash Tours vacation in Negril, Jamaica or a cruise to the Bahamas on the famous Rock Boat. Not too shabby for just drinking beer and flipping plastic cups. Then again, you have to go through a March Madness type bracket of 64 teams to win the grand prize.

The World’s Largest Flip Cup Tournament will be held in New York City on October 11, 2008. The tournament will have 64 teams all competing for the grand prize plus bragging rights for a long time. The 64 team count easily surpasses the current world record of 44 teams from a previous tournament held in Baltimore.

Teams that have already committed to competing hail from all over the United States including New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington D.C., Nevada, Louisiana, California, Connecticut, West Virginia and Delaware. A Canadian team has also committed to compete in the tournament as well.

The Flip Cup Guys even have plans to expand and host future tournaments in Philadelphia and Boston and other cities before the end of 2008. To register a team for these forthcoming tournaments or to reserve your spot as a spectator at the big tournament in New York City, check out FlipCupguys.com.

Flip Cup Championship Coming To New York

flip_cup_guys_logo.jpgSo you are the master flip cup player. Your tailgating crew can out flip any of the weak ass pretenders in the parking lot. Are you tired of schooling everyone and not having any real flip cup competition? Then it is time for you to gather up five other players, scrounge up $180 between the six of you and head to New York. That’s because in October Flip Cup Guys will sanction the inaugural World’s Largest Flip Cup Tournament (WLFCT).

Flip Cup Guys, the nation’s largest organizer of flip cup tournaments, is putting this thing on and it is limited to a 64-team field. Think March Madness but with less sprained ankles and more swollen livers. There are no qualifying tournaments to breeze through to make it to the WLFCT. All you need is the $30 per team member entry fees, six players, a larger than normal alcohol tolerance and an expert skill to flip plastic cups. Maybe you suck at flip cup and just want to watch? No sweat. The venue hosting the WLFCT is the M1-5 Bar and Lounge in New York City. Plenty of space for not only the competitors but for spectators to take in the drinking and flipping action. Spectators pay $25 and will enjoy an open beer bar for the length of the tournament. With 65 matches scheduled to complete the tournament, I think I could easily drink more than my fair share of $25 worth of beer.

Tournament kicks off at 1 pm on October 11, 2008 in New York City. (The M1-5 Bar and Lounge is located between Broadway and Church Street in NYC.) Needless to say, you need to be of legal drinking age to participate but of course, you wouldn’t know how to play flip cup unless you were 21, right? Riiiiiiight!
