Weekend Wrap-Up #112: Melanie Collins Edition

August 22, 2010 in Babes, Mailbag

This week’s lesson in “How to Properly Use Twitter” is brought to you by none other than Melanie Collins. Who is Melanie Collins you ask… Well, she’s a former bikini model that has turned her propensity for looking scorchingly hot in a bikini into a gig as a reporter for the Big 10 Network. She’s also on Twitter, @melanie_collins, with over 5,000 stalkers, er, followers. As you can imagine, a hot girl talking about sports in a football crazy league like the Big 10 would tend to garner a few followers on Twitter. So when Melanie Collins tweeted that her sources were telling her that Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier was going to transfer, she immediately recognized the error of her ways. Despite deleting the tweet minutes later, the damage was done. The news took off like wildfire within the sports blogosphere and the UM message boards and Google searches for Melanie Collins just made a jump.

So here is the moral of the story – be a responsible tweeter and think before you press send. Much like drunk dialing your ex-girlfriend after 3 am, what you tweet may come back to haunt you. A wise man once said, “You never regret the things you DON’T say.” Keep that in mind when using Twitter. Links follow the pic:

Weekend Wrap-Up #110: Comic Con Edition

July 25, 2010 in Babes, Mailbag

This past weekend was the annual Comic Book Convention (Comic Con) down in San Diego. There are tons of comic conventions all over the country but apparently the San Diego one attracts the biggest crowd. I’ll be honest with you. While growing up in San Diego, I used to collect vintage comic books. I had a paper route and spent quite a bit of my money that earned on comic books. I even begged and pleaded with my parents to let me go to the Comic Con. At that time it was in a dingy hotel in downtown San Diego near the local plasma bank. I was 11 and 12 years old at that time. My how things have changed.

Now Comic Con in San Diego is no longer full of 27 year-old nerdy, dorky guys living in their parent’s basement watching reruns of Star trek and wondering what it is like to kiss a girl. Now it has evolved into a full blown tourist attraction for Sci-Fi fans or anyone looking to show their wild side. Part of that wild side is the costumes some of the people wear. Correction: the costumes the women choose to wear. So now Comic Con has joined the ranks of Halloween as one of the days that affords women the opportunity to dress very suggestively and no one seems to bat an eye or raise an eyebrow.

So my question to the tailgaters is: “Is Comic Con an event that is worthy of tailgating?”. After all, tailgating is no longer just reserved for sporting events or concerts. You can tailgate just about anything. So judging by some of the photos from COED’s Colossal Comic-Con Cleavage Collection this might be something to consider tailgating next year. Weekend Wrap #37: So Sorry Joe Pa Edition

November 9, 2008 in Mailbag

news_wrap.jpgI’ll admit it. A few years ago I was calling for Joe Paterno to step down as head coach at Penn State claiming the modern game had passed him by. Then he had to go and string together a few winning seasons to the point where his Nittany Lions climbed all the way to No. 3 in the BCS standings this past week. Well, it all seems that the dream season has come crashing down with the last second loss to Iowa today. Was it the pink locker rooms at Kinnick Stadium that did it? Who knows. But now that the ride seems like it is over I feel kind of bad for JoePa. I guess that is why you play the whole season. Anyway, on with the links for the week.
