Selk’bag 4G Lite

Posted by Dave On November - 5 - 2011

SelkbagWith the calendar turning to November that means football tailgaters in cold weather locations have turned in their short sleeves and have broken out the wool socks by now. A quick look at nflweather.com shows that a number of games are expected to be played in temperatures in the low 40s and could dip into the 30s. We haven’t even hit Thanksgiving yet and you know the temperatures are only going to get colder as the football season moves along. The prospect of cold weather approaching won’t prevent tailgaters from tailgating; it will just make them more uncomfortable if they don’t dress appropriately. Normally that includes lots of layers and huddling around a space heater or an open fire. We recently had the opportunity to test and review the Selk’bag 4G Lite to see how well it would hold up in a tailgating environment.

Simply put, the Selk’bag 4G Lite is a wearable sleeping bag with arms and legs. At the bottom of the legs are reinforced nylon soles that allows you to walk in the Selk’bag without wearing a hole in feet. The arms have a Velcro hand release system so you can hold your beer, toss a cornhole bag or even text your friends your current location where you are parked. You can do all of this while staying warm and toasty when the mercury is near freezing. While others may be shivering under layers of sweatshirts and long underwear, the Selk’bag wearer will be warm just as if they were laying down in a sleeping bag. Mobility and functionality coupled with warmth and comfort makes the Selk’bag “Tailgate Approved” in our opinion.

(Disclaimer: We received a sample of the Selk’bag 4G Lite for free. The fact this sample was provided to us in no way influenced our opinion of the product nor did it impact our ability to test and review the Selk’bag 4G Lite fairly and objectively.)

Check out this video that was filmed in the Atacama Desert, north of Chile showcasing the versatility and functionality of the Selk’bag.

Selk’bag makes a number of different models but it is our opinion that the 4G Lite would be best suited for tailgating. The Selk’bag 4G Lite is 30% lower in weight than the Selk’bag 3G and the quick-release hand closure system allows for quick entry and exit of the hands. The reinforced nylon soles prevent wear and lateral grips give traction on multiple surfaces. A big feature that will appeal to tailgaters is the double front entry-zippers and a right hip zipper. These points make for quick entry while granting access to pants pockets. Also, these zippers make it easy to gain access to other parts down there for those trips to the port-a-potty after a few beers.

If you are a cold weather tailgater and would like a Selk’bag 4G Lite to stay warm at your next tailgate, there are two ways to get one. The first is you can buy one online from places like Amazon or directly from selkbagusa.com. The Selk’bag 4G Lite is priced from $79 to $99 depending on your size and color preference.

The second way to get your hands on a Selk’bag 4G Lite is to win one from us at TailgatingIdeas.com. It’s really easy to enter and won’t cost you a thing. All you need to do is leave a comment at the end of this post telling us where you tailgate and why you want a Selk’bag 4G Lite to keep warm. (If you are reading this from the home page, you will need to click into the post in order to leave a comment.) Make sure when leaving your comment you provide us with a valid email address. That is how we will contact the winner and will request their shipping address to send their Selk’bag 4G Lite to them. Don’t worry. We won’t spam you or sell your email to a marketing list.

The window of opportunity to post your comment goes all the way through Monday Night Football and will close at 11:59 pm pacific time on Monday, November 7, 2011. We will select a commenter at random by using the random number generator from random.org. One comment per email address please. Best of luck and please stay warm out there in the parking lots.

We tailgate in upstate New York and could definitely use one of these because we play cornhole all the time

  2. Eric Hampton says:

Where do I tailgate…..? Anyplace where beer, food, and friends happen to come together. My goal is to tailgate all over the country at the best events available. My two favorites so far have been the College Baseball World Series and a Green Bay Packers game in late December (could have used the Selk bag for that one!) Sporting that suit I would be ready for a tailgate party, passing out, or perhaps fighting crime! That bag rocks!

  3. Sean Huntington says:

I do all my tailgating right here in Salt lake City for The U OF U home games and it can get really quite cold at times so one of these would be just great to bring along when the temps are so low that I could freeze my brat off.!!!

  4. Robert Matthews says:

wow, i hope that i have a good chance at winning this awesome Selk’bag 4G Lite because where i live in the mountains it gets really cold, and last year we were out of power for 8 days strait. so yes this would be well used where i live! oh and just had to mention that we have already had snow the last 3 days!

  5. Bill Brennan says:

We tailgate before the North Dakota games. If there is someone out there that tailgates in a colder place I would like to see it.

  6. Kevin Lampmann says:

Usually do my tailgating at Giants stadium(MetLife). Try to catch a couple Rutgers games too. Considering it snowed before Halloween this year we’re probably in for a cold season. Definitely could use this.

  7. Jeff Morein says:

I have two great uses for one of these awesome sleeping bags. First we are big campers, and the worst part of camping is trying to sleep in a restrictive sleeping bag. I have never seen these things before, but the idea of being able to sleep unrestricted is awesome! Second, I am an avid Florida Gator fan! We go to every home game and love to follow the gators to as many of their away games as possible (even with all the heart break these past two seasons). We start at our tailgate spot in Gainesville at 6am every home game. It was in the 40’s most of the morning this past Saturday. As we prepped food, worked the smoker and played corn hole, I kept losing my outer layers to my freezing fiancé. Next thing I knew I had lost my sweeter and jacket. This is when I realized, we really need something like one of these new Selk Bags. Her blankets were worthless, because it is impossible to stay wrapped up while setting up a tailgate, preparing breakfast, and enjoying the tailgating games we love. This is why I think it would be amazing to win one of these Selk Bags!!

  8. Kendra Lanahan says:

I do most of my tailgating at The Big House in Ann Arbor. I should win because it is my BIRTHDAY!!!

  9. Mackenzie Morein says:

I tailgate at the Florida Gator games and UCF games. I should win because I want to beat my brother!

  10. Joe Straw says:

Big Penn state fan here and I am finally moving back home. My buddies and I always try and dress as crazy as possible at our tailgates. This would help the outfit and be practical at the same time!!

  11. Dennis Callinan says:

I tailgate anywhere I am invited! I always show up with a case of my favorite tailgating beer, my folding yard chair, a couple of bucks for food & more beer, and hopefully soon a new Selk’bag 4G Lite!

  12. Karan Fulton says:

My Husband and I are big Steelers fans! We try and get to a few of their games a year, and it really does get cold!! It would be great to have something like this to keep me us warm!!

  13. Matt Hanniman says:

Sadly most of my tailgating now revolves around my kid’s sports. I would love to get one of these, just one more way to embarrass them in the colder months!

  14. Dustin Kline says:

I tailgate in Foxborough. It gets very cold there in the Winter.

  15. John Morein says:

I tailgate in Virginia, and it gets cold here too!

  16. Bryan Eastman says:

I am from texas and am freezing in NY!!

  17. bill petty says:

Tailgating at the stick. Would love a red one

  18. Ian Miller says:

I do my tailgating in South Florida, but I could use the Selk’bag for my ski trips!!

  19. Ian Miller says:

I live in South Florida, but I could use the Selk’bag for my ski trips!!

  20. Christian Broomel says:

Auburn fan here! That Blue on in XL would look great at our next tailgate!!

  21. Ian Miller says:

Does the winner get announced or do they just get an email!?

  22. Dave says:

Thanks to all who commented and all the great reasons as to why you would like to win one of these. We ran the random drawing this morning after the commenting period had closed and the random number generator came up with No. 8. That means Kendra Lanahan is the winner. We will email Kendra and get her address and have her free Selk’Bag sent to her directly from the manufacturer. Congratulations Kendra and to those of you who are not Kendra but did like to get one we saw them for sale on Amazon for less than $80. Of course that is not the same as winning one but we only had one to give away. Thanks for commenting everyone and thanks for reading. Stay tuned because we have another product where we will be able to give away more free stuff coming soon.
