Favorite Super Bowl Commercials

This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. Although nobody will be tailgating outside of Lucas Oil Stadium this Sunday (the NFL has banned tailgating at the Super Bowl for years) most of you will be watching it at home, a friend’s house or even at a bar. Outside of the competition on the field, many viewers will be more looking forward to the innovative and creative commercials that air in between breaks in the action.

Breaking from our normal topic of all tailgating all the time, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite Super Bowl commercials from the past 10 to 15 years. Keep in mind that this collection of ads were not voted “the best” by the USA Today Ad Meter but merely are the ones we thought we the most creative and humorous in our opinion. In no particular order:

Tailgate Shootout Demo

Although we have known about the tailgating game Tailgate Shootout for a while now, we caught up with Wayne, the inventor of the game, out in Las Vegas during the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show. He was gracious enough to have his referee booth babes demonstrate how the game is played for our video camera.

(Please excuse the idiots walking in front of the camera. Apparently the red light on the front of it wasn’t enough to let them know they should walk around behind it.)

TurboChill

A few weeks ago we were out at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show in Las Vegas. While there we discovered a lot of new tailgating gear and games and basically a lot of really cool stuff. One very cool (literally and figuratively) piece of gear we found out there was the TurboChill. What this product does is it flash chills beer down to 35 – 42 degrees from a keg of beer that is room temperature. We shot this video with Tim Fenner, the distributor of the TurboChill, to show you how it works.

(Also a unique and strategic part of our stadium design is we will build in a way that prevents car and pedestrian traffic from intersecting. This big thing is often overlooked but will drastically reduce the amount of traffic issues.)

600 ACRES!!! OPEN SPACE IS KEY TO A GOOD TAILGATE

With 600 acres, we can work with fans and the league to design a perfect tailgate and one that resembles the Southern California Lifestyle. For instance, our plans include wave pools for surfing, mountain walls for rock climbing and a one of a kind skate park for future X-Games.

In addition, we will have unbelievable amounts of open space that will allow for traditional tailgate activities. Fans don’t want to sit at a chain restaurant and they don’t like the idea of being cornered in a parking garage where you can’t see the sun and you have no place to tailgate. They want to show up with a grill, a cooler, a big screen, an RV or a truck and enjoy the day. Because our location is outside of the urban core, we have plenty of space and on-site parking so you don’t have to walk. And for those who want to take public transportation, we will have an on-site Metro Link station and one of the largest bus staging sites in the area. (But we know you can’t transport your grill via bus…which is why fewer than 8,000 fans use public transportation to football games in NYC.)
