HBO Piece Focuses On ‘Dark Side of Tailgating’

January 24, 2008 in Uncategorized

hbo-sports.jpgYou may have caught the first run of HBO’s popular sports news magazine show Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on Tuesday, January 22, 2008. The opening segment was an expose on excessive alcohol consumption at NFL games. Much of the segment focused on drinking while tailgating. If you saw the program or not you can probably imagine the images they chose to show. NFL fans drinking to the point where they are no longer able to stand up, vomiting at the stadium gates, chugging beers out of a road cone and public urination were just a few of the negative images HBO chose to include in this piece. Although the segment showcased negative fan behavior throughout the entire NFL game day experience, the public perception of tailgating took a serious hit. To that point I suggest HBO air a follow-up piece depicting the positive and responsible side of tailgating.

Hey NFL! Can You Hear Me Now?

January 23, 2008 in Tailgating Ideas

Joe Horn Cell PhoneAfter a little bit of a slow start, it seems that the Super Bowl Tailgating Petition is gaining some legs. Apparently one of the signees has taken it upon himself to contact a few members of the sports media and has promoted the petition to anyone who will listen. Who was listening? Apparently the NFL league offices caught wind of it and sent me an email about the petition. It was from Brain McCarthy, the NFL director of corporate communications. Whenever you get an email in your inbox that has @nfl.com on the end of it, you’d probably open that one up first too. Here is what it said: Read the rest of this entry →

Tailgate Party T-Shirt Ideas

January 19, 2008 in Tailgating Gear

champion_tshirt.jpgYou always get the same question before heading out to go tailgating. “What should I wear to the tailgate party?” Here at Tailgating Ideas we are no Mr. Blackwell, but we have seen a few tailgating fashion do’s and don’ts in our time in the parking lots. Here are two easy tips based on the type of tailgating you will be doing.

1. If you are going to a game, wearing the gear of the home team is always a good call. You can never go wrong rocking the jersey of one of the two teams playing. If you are going to the Chargers vs. Patriots game, please leave the Green Bay Packers Brett Favre jersey in the closet. You’ll look like a tool. Trust us on this one.

2. If you are concert tailgating, wear a t-shirt of a band that is similar to the one you are seeing. Do not commit the faux pas of wearing the T-shirt of the exact same band you are going to see. To quote Jeremy Piven’s character, James “Droz” Andrews, in the movie PCU, “What is this? You’re gonna wear this to the show? You’re gonna wear the shirt of the band you’re gonna go see? Don’t be that guy.”

Let’s review, class… Sports tailgating – wear the jersey or T-shirt of one of the teams playing = Good. Concert tailgating – wear a T-shirt of the band playing = Bad. I don’t make the rules I am just here to inform you of them.

But what if you want to stand out and make a statement while tailgating? Just like every girl at her Senior prom, no one wants to show up to the dance wearing the same gown as someone else. We have scoured the internet and have compiled a few suggestions for tailgate T-shirt ideas you may enjoy. Be careful. If you offend easily, you may want to check out a different article.

If you like any of the shirts suggested here, click on any design to buy that shirt directly from the manufacturer.

No More Pain In The Ass Tailgating With ‘The TaleGator’

January 18, 2008 in Tailgating Gear

talegator_girl.jpgSeating is always at a premium while tailgating. No matter how many tailgating chairs you bring there always seems to never be enough places for people to sit down. Invariably a few people will start sitting on the pulled down tailgate of a pick-up truck. After all, that is how tailgating got its name, right? Veteran tailgaters know that sitting on an extended tailgate is fine but is not comfortable for any extended period of time. Joe Fournier over at The TaleGator has developed a cool new tailgating product for tailgaters who simply want a comfortable tailgate seat attached to their truck tailgate.
