Memorial Day weekend is typically recognized as the unofficial opening for grilling season. Although we tailgaters would argue that grilling season never ends, the major retailers tend to target this holiday as the kick off to summer and to them, that means grilling.
If you have been reading this tailgating blog for any amount of time you know we have not been shy about our encouragement of enlisting a Freedom Grill/Margaritaville Tailgating Grill when you are in the parking lot. The good news is that if you have been on the fence about getting a Margaritaville Ride Behind Tailgating Propane Grill, they are now on sale for $199.99 plus free shipping over at Buy.com.
When the Freedom Grill FG-50 model was turned into the Margaritaville Tailgating Grill in 2009, the only major changes to the grill were to the aesthetics. The grill lid handle, side panels and end caps on the swing arm were all colored a margarita green. Palm tree decals were added to the swing arm and a compass was added to the grill condiment tray. Other that those cosmetic changes, the nuts and bolts of the grill remained same as if it was a Freedom Grill FG-50. We like the Freedom Grill/Margaritaville Tailgating Grill for a number of reasons. The main selling point for us is that fact the grill uses the 2″ tow hitch receiver to travel to a from the game. That frees up more cargo area inside your truck bed or SUV cargo area for more important things like… a bigger cooler. Being able to lock it up when you go inside the game means you won’t have to worry about grill grease dripping on the inside of your car. The fact that it is propane is an additional feature we prefer because the speed and convenience of propane while tailgating is a plus. Also, some tailgating parking lots ban charcoal so no matter where you tailgate this grill, it will be welcome.
Bottom line is that since the Margaritaville brand took over this model grill, we have not seen them sold at this low of a price ever. We have seen the price go as low as $207.00 but that online retailer was charging additional shipping. We calculated the shipping and it jacked the price way up to the point the low price was no longer a good deal. At under $200 out the door with no additional shipping charges, this is an absolute steal.
So if you have been debating whether you want to get a new tailgating grill for the upcoming season, now would be the time to do it. The only catch is that Buy.com is only offering this killer price through May 30, 2011. The only other catch is they limit you to five (5) per customer.
Couple this great deal with our tutorial on how to customize your own Margaritaville Ride Behind Tailgating Propane Grill to make it a team grill of your choice, you now have no excuse to drag out that old grill to the parking lot again.
